Manu Worldstar back with new music to reclaim his glory
Two years after his abrupt musical hiatus, singer/songwriter Manu Worldstar is ready for his comeback. And with undeniable hits such as Nalingi and Choko on his catalogue, the 27-year-old hopes his upcoming single #Sheke will also be a crowd favourite.
Real name Emmanuel Mutendji, the muso describe #Sheke as a feel-good song that inspires letting go and having fun on the dancefloor with one’s significant other. The song captures the two elements that Manu has come to be known for – love and fun.
“I really wanted to go back to making fun music. I feel like the height of my career was when I would make feel-good songs, and coming out of a two year silence, that is a great place to start,” he said.
“Sheke is a warm-fuzzy bridge that connects different cultures together. And this song will bring that element across strongly,” he said.
He also has an EP ready to release, which will drop in the month of June. Speaking about the EP, Manu Worldstar describes it as “an body of work of love through the eyes of a third-cultured child or an immigrant child – which is who I am,” said the hitmaker who is born to Congolese parents.
“The EP has five songs, with no features except for my producer. I felt like a lot of my biggest records thus far were solo projects. If you know Emmauel’s discography, you would know that my first EP was a solo EP, dubbed YAS, which had the hit song Nalingi. I released an album after that, with a bunch of features, but the biggest song to come out from there was Choko, another solo tune. So I kind of picked up that my fans enjoyed hearing me,” he said, adding that his time off the industry has afforded him a lot to say and this musical platform is the perfect space to say it all.
“I also feel like I owe it to myself, after such a longtime, to make Manu Worldstar the main focus again. To show that I am back and express myself.”
Manu Worldstar’s break from the industry was a result of many factors that came to play , including transitioning from one record label to his own dubbed as World Class Entertainment. While putting his house back in order, it was during this period that he was preparing for this very moment – by recording new music.
“I was in and out of different emotions, and if it wasn’t for my family and my girl – it was going to be much tougher (to deal with) than it was. But I made it out, I have a new zeal and I feel good now,” he said sounding chirpy.
The two years also offered him the opportunity, also to learn about the music industry and better his chances of becoming a good music business mogul. Something he is focusing on now more than ever. The business side of music.
With a bunch of music ready to be released right through the year, he shares that an album is imminent in the next coming year.
“I want people to first warm up to me again, to build up the traction and demand for the project before I can release a longer project. But I am excited about this new era, I feel really good about it” he said.
