Maali Announces Second EP “Damage You Demanded”
Kenyan singer-songwriter and multi-genre vocalist Maali has released his highly anticipated second EP, Damage You Demanded. The three-track project is a bold, emotionally candid body of work that takes listeners through the full arc of his early 20s dating life, from reckless choices and toxic encounters, to hard-won self-love and personal accountability.
Where most heartbreak records cast the artist as a victim, Damage You Demanded does the opposite. It is a rare, unflinching mirror, one that reflects the moments we knew better, chose wrong anyway, and ultimately grew from.

“Bad Decision,” the EP’s lead single and opening chapter, has already made its mark, charting at #24 on the Nigerian radio charts and gaining traction in South Africa. The song is Maali’s honest reckoning with a relationship he knew was wrong from the start.
“Bad Decision is the epitome of my foolishness. I chose to date someone that was terrible for me. I compromised on my own principles and boundaries, I was warned by friends and family alike and I ignored their warnings. I was a fool,” says Maali.
“Devil’s Daughter” unfolds as a cautionary tale of a late-night encounter in Nairobi that laid bare the pain of unrequited attraction. The track earned placement on Billboard Africa’s New Music Friday, appearing alongside Tyla’s project A Pop, a testament to the song’s undeniable resonance.

“No Evil” closes the EP and the chapter. After failed relationships, situationships, and the quiet cost of abandoning his own self-worth, Maali chose himself, and this song is the public declaration of that choice.
“No Evil is an ode to anyone who hurt me, a public notice that while I loved them once, I love myself infinitely more now. That self-love breathes through everything I do. I dress better, look better, and feel better, all because I chose myself,” Maali says.
Damage You Demanded was born from a place of deep reflection, not bitterness. The EP is about the reflection of self and the call to be accountable. “In so much of the music I listen to, when people get hurt in relationships, they take the stance of a victim. There is no accountability, they hardly make room for the reality that the first time they’d seen a red flag was the time they should’ve left, but didn’t. I didn’t want to go down that road,” Maali explains.

“People can look forward to a fun and accountable beginning, while the end will look at growth and self-worth. I want my listeners to know they are infinitely capable of growth and becoming, they do not have to become stuck in their ways,” he adds.
Both “Bad Decision” and “Devil’s Daughter” have secured placements on leading editorial playlists across streaming platforms, including Nairobae, Barefoot and Free, Alte Cruise, Sexy Afro, Cocoa Butter, and R&Beats on Spotify, alongside Brown Sugar, Motherland Honey, and Africa Rising on Apple Music. The records have also gained notable traction in the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

“I grew up in a musical home, so music wasn’t something I had trouble accessing. My grandfather was an organ player in church and he taught his children to love and appreciate all kinds of music. That love ended up trickling down to my generation,” says Maali.
That foundation has translated into an impressive career trajectory. Maali has opened for international artists such as Anthony Hamilton and Gabzy, and has collaborated with a distinguished roster that includes Bien of Sauti Sol, Nameless, Xenia Manasseh, Ywaya of Watendawili, Lisa Oduor, June Gachui, and Maya Amolo.
Alongside the EP release, Maali will be featured as an artist on a project curated by Jameson, dropping in the same period. He also continues to platform his music through his monthly event series, Like A Sunday, a live, intimate experience built to bring his sound directly to his audience.
