FKA MASH Expands the Language of South African House Music with Debut Album “EXITECHNO”
After years of shaping South Africa’s electronic music landscape through meticulous production, acclaimed remixes, and a sound that refuses to sit comfortably inside a single genre, FKA MASH enters his most definitive chapter yet with EXITECHNO, his debut full-length album released via his own imprint, September Bloom, through Platoon.
Rooted in Soweto and built from the musical instincts he developed as a teenager, EXITECHNO is not a pivot away from FKA MASH’s root, it is an expansion. The album brings together disco, deep house, and minimalist techno into a seamless and deceptively simple body of work, balancing the energy of the dancefloor with the intimacy of a late-night headphone listen.
FKA MASH spent his childhood in Soweto messing around with early production software he found on a friend’s computer. By age 12, he was obsessed. By his early twenties, he had quietly become one of South Africa’s most precise electronic music craftsmen, helping redefine a local house scene renowned for its deep, musical sophistication.

His breakthrough came through raw talent and meticulous arrangement. When his Glitch Dub remix of Sculptured Music’s “Sad To Think” took home Remix of the Year at the 2019 Dance Music Awards SA, and later landed a South African Music Award nomination, it confirmed what local dancefloors already knew. But FKA MASH was never going to stay boxed into a single regional category.
While some of his early supporters championed him as a Deep House standout and others championed him as an Afro House standout, his catalog always pointed toward something broader. A clear indication that a new path was being forged. His versatility quickly caught international attention. Hamburg’s very own Stimming brought him on board for an official remix of his song “Pidgeons” and Legendary UK synth-pop duo Everything But The Girl handed him the stems for an official rework of “Caution To The Wind”, while releases on Defected and Snatch! Records introduced his signature, warm synth work to European audiences and the world at large.
Blue Note’s Nduduzo Makhathini entrusted FKA MASH with the Re-Amathambo Remix which bagged him another Remix of The Year Nomination at the 2026 South African Music Awards. From heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM to club dates across Europe and the Middle East, FKA MASH built a global reputation for music that works as naturally on a massive festival rig as it does on a late-night drive home.

Rather than chasing quick club trends, EXITECHNO leans into subtle, hypnotic territory. It shares a common lineage with the best of German minimal house, nodding to the playfulness, warm acoustic textures, and deep grooves popularized by artists like DJ Koze and Isolée. Yet for all its sonic detail, the record is deliberately unpretentious and easy to fall into. It’s warm, emotive, and flexible, shifting comfortably between club energy and quiet headphone listens.
At the center of the album’s introduction is “Make Believe”, featuring Samuell Miller. The lead single lays down the thesis, a low-slung, atmospheric slice of vocal house that floats right in the sweet spot between DJ Koze’s quirky soulfulness and Larry Heard’s fundamental deep house roots.
The album brings together a tight-knit network of vocalists, producers, and scene stalwarts who each add a distinct texture to the record. Dave DK, a cornerstone of Berlin’s electronic landscape, brings decades of pedigree to “No Walls”, with a back catalog spanning Kompakt, Pampa Records, and Moodmusic, alongside legacy residencies at Panorama Bar and Tresor.
Biishop contributes to “Love Is In The Air”, bringing genuine raw emotion to the dance track, while KVRVBO adds his steady groove to “Wonder”, complementing FKA MASH’s signature moody, atmospheric touch. Fatso 98 appears on “Disco Bouncer”, bringing his ability to stitch classic disco and RnB warmth into modern deep house grooves.

Thando Zide (“Mampatile”), Tahir Jones (“Our Thing”), LVN (“Nights Alone”), and Felix’N (“Feel Redux”) complete a core group of South African vocalists and producers who represent the current wave of soulful, story-driven electronic music bridging house, R&B, and club culture.
