A Free Man Once Again: Hip-Hop Star Emtee Out on Bail

Following a sixteen-day stay behind bars, South African trap superstar Mthembeni Ndevu, also known as eMTee, has been released from custody. Ndevu made an appearance at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on 2 September 2026, where his bail was subsequently set at R2 000.

Earlier, the SAMA-winning musician found himself on the wrong side of the law after violating his estranged wife Nicole Chinsamy’s protection order. The filed protection order barred Ndevu from abusing her verbally, particularly on social media through inflammatory posts and unsolicited mentions. The prohibition also extended beyond malicious intent, meaning that it restricted the “WAR” hitmaker from talking about Nicole in public, even in an innocent light. The protection order has been in effect for the past three years.

The aftermath of the violation was eMTee being taken into custody on 17 August 2026, with his bail being rescinded owing to the breach.

According to reports, Nicole Chinsamy expressed a desire to drop all charges against Ndevu, citing that she wanted peace for all the parties involved as well as moving on from the issue.

Ndevu and Chinsamy have been in the spotlight for the past several years because of the troubling nature of their relationship. Their strained marriage has been marred by recurrent relationship problems, marked by allegations of verbal abuse via leaked WhatsApp screenshots and subliminal shots taken on social media of the alleged ill treatment.

The allegations concerning abuse culminated in the pair being caught in a storm on social media on 4 June 2026, with the rapper outing Nicole for alleged physical abuse. This came after Chinsamy took to her Instagram account to post pictures of her wrecked home, accusing the trap star of not only being a culprit in the incident but also a long-standing physical abuser.

Ndevu will have his day in court once again on 10 September 2026.

This is a developing story.
