The C9 model is projected to make its debut in the Mzansi market during the third quarter of 2024. The child of the Chinese motor vehicle company, Chery, is set to consolidate its position within the niche of SUVs, with the C5 model being successful after its launch last year, even being a finalist for the 2023 South Africa Car of the Year. The C9, positioned as a luxury car, aims to strengthen the hold of Chery’s subsidiary in South Africa only two years since the Omoda brand was launched.
“This model is known in its home market as the Exeed RX, but will be renamed as the Omoda C9 when it arrives in South Africa during the third quarter of 2024. It features similar styling cues to the compact C5 we already know, including the pointed nose, sloped tailgate and rising waistline, but its enlarged dimensions helps it wear those styling elements even more gracefully.
“Omoda’s C9 has more than just swagger counting in its favour, however, because that swoopy styling cloaks a very impressive mechanical package. Motive power is provided by Chery’s corporate 2.0-litre turbo engine, delivering a staunch 193 kW and 400 Nm in this application. This is sent to all four wheels by way of a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox,” according to Martin Pretorius of CHANGECARS.
Billed to be the most fiscally ambitious car of the Omoda chain, a number of sources and publications, have estimated that the car will have an asking price in the range of R800 000 to R850 000.
