Two-Time Rugby World Cup Winner Siya Kolisi Honoured As One Of Time 100 People

Two-time Rugby World Cup-winning captain of the Springboks Siya Kolisi has been included in the 2024 Time 100 list of influential people worldwide.

Holding the prestige of being one of world’s most widely circulated weekly magazine, Time Magazine is an international forerunner in the journalistic world when it comes to keeping the audience up to speed in various beats which incorporate but aren’t necessarily limited to entertainment, politics, health, and science.

Known for its Time 100 list of influential people over the course of two decades, the magazine has forged an enviable reputation which has seen stars covet to find their names included in the yearly list which has included stars such as Lionel Messi, LeBron James, and Naomi Osaka, among other sports people in the past. Included in the 2024 list, Kolisi star took to his Instagram account to thank Time magazine for the mention.

“Being named to the 2024 #TIME100 list is an incredible honour, one that deeply humbles me. It’s a profound responsibility to stand alongside individuals who dedicate their lives to enriching others. This recognition isn’t just for me; it reflects the numerous individuals and communities who have poured into me and shaped me to be person I am and am becoming. I’m grateful to Time for highlighting the importance of compassion and service in our world. I look forward to getting my hands on the TIME100 issue when it’s released on Friday.” he expressed.

Having led the Springboks to a record-extending fourth World Cup win, Siya Kolisi isn’t only the first Black captain to lead his charge to a World Cup win, but also the first captain overall to lift the Webb Ellis Trophy twice.

2018 Times 100 inductee and compatriot Trevor Noah wrote his tribute on the magazine.

“Through his wisdom and humility, Siya has taught us what a powerful captain should be: someone who serves and inspires those he leads. And for him to lead a team in a historically white sport, to be loved and adored by fans of all races, is an immense achievement.” Noah said.
