Sports Wives’ Dipuo Maloi ready to set the record straight on Showmax’s new reality TV Show
Dipuo Maloi is out to set the record straight. The 37-year-old, who now forms part of Showmax’s newest reality TV show Sports Wives, joins five other women who have or are romantically linked with Mzansi’s athletes – following their day-to-day lives.
Dipuo, however, has had her life splashed across the media numerous times and she said she now wants to control the narrative of her life by telling it as it is.
Dipuo Maloi has two baby daddies: Moroka Swallows teammates Andile Jali and Lantshene Phalane, and because of this she shares that her life narrative has been distorted numerous times “They (outsiders) have already concluded that everything I have and own is because of the men I have dated. But that is not the case.”
She is ready to right all the wrongs.
“I was approached once or twice to be a part of Diski Divas but I never accepted the invite because of how controversial my name has always been. A lot has been written about me and things have been said for so many years and I’ve been quiet.
“Now it is time for me to tell my story, truthfully and authentically, especially because I lived my life. It’s time that people get to know me for me,” she said.
She has led a peaceful life with her new man, she shares, and although allowing people into her life may bring unwarranted commentary Dipuo is content with her life.
“I don’t care what anyone is going to think of me. I will tell it all, will be driving my own car and not hire any. You will see my life at Meadowlands in Soweto, I will show you how myself and my second baby daddy (Lantshene Phalane) are co-parenting and how he is physically present in both the kid’s lives compared to Andile,” she adds.
Apart from her association with the athletes, Dipuo will also showcase her entrepreneurial side as a business woman that she has been running since 2020 when she lost her job.
“That’s how real it is going to get. Show you how I make ends meet, show everyone the truth about how much Andile (Jali) gives me monthly and people are going to be shocked because of all these perceptions that they have already created about me, thinking I get allowances of R25K,” she said.
Stepping into a group of ladies, only knowing one lady Sisanda Cetiywe (who was in a relationship with former Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mwene) whom she once regarded as a friend, Dipuo has forged genuine connections with some of the ladies among them being Clarrisa Manaças – who was in a relationship with former Springbok player Lionel Mapoe.
The other ladies joining the show are Bomzi September is married to ex-footballer and now coach Thabo September, Christa Kgamphe-Jane who is married to Banyana Banyana player Refiloe Jane-Kgamphe and Tsholo Makgalemele-Mbane is married to Bambanani Mbane.
Sports Wives is the first Showmax Original reality show from Ndlovukazi Concepts and the producer has promised to show the ladies in their truest form without faking anything. “We didn’t shy away from the realities of exes of professional athletes who have had to find their way after leaving the glitzy life of being girlfriends to soccer stars,” says Nonhlanhla Dhlamini, executive producer and creator of the show.
“This is explored through Dipuo Maloi, whose relationship with Andile Jali has been widely publicised by tabloids, including her Twitter spat with former Diski Divas’ Nonhle Ndala, who was Andile’s wife.”
