“Someone Should Teach Jelly Babie Some Respect”: Cancel Culture Knocks At The Door Of Rising Bacardi Star

Cancel culture has risen once more and has reared its head at rising bacardi performer and social media personality Jelly Babie.

The “Jukulyn” musician recently trended on TikTok and currently on X for a now-deleted video that was originally posted on her TikTok account. The viral footage saw her embroiled in a bitter exchange with an elderly cashier (understood to be Martha Mazibuko) at Big Save. Although the backstory of the recording and the events leading up to the falling out haven’t emerged, Jelly Babie can be heard spitting vitriol at the cashier, telling her that “awu silo” (you are nothing) and that respect doesn’t have an age limit.

Recent developments regarding the matter have also emerged, alleging that the cashier who was involved in the spat got suspended as a result.

Since the circulation of the video, netizens have been critical about the altercation, with many people decrying Babie’s rudeness, her tone, and her lack of regard for the woman’s social standing, since she worked as a cashier. Not only have people criticized her conduct, her social media brand has been impacted negatively, with people unfollowing her on different platforms as well as P Squared Beauty Palour terminating their partnership.

“In light of recent events involving Jelly Babie, we have made the decision to end our partnership with her, as her behaviour does not align with our values. P-Squared Beauty Palour is a women-owned and women-empowered salon, and we take pride in commitment to promoting kindness, respect, and dignity for all. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and hope that she will be dedicated to promoting respect and kindness in all her future projects,” the company said via their Facebook page earlier this morning,

Tweeps on X have also come out in their droves, seemingly going against Jelly Babie.

@Petty_LaBawdy referenced the recent death of DJ and MC Peter Mashata, saying: “This Jelly Babie chick from Pretoria is so rude xem. Modimdo otsaya bo Mashata and leaves us with such people.”

@Mmakgosidarling panned Jelly Babie’s attitude as being childish, citing that she needs to humble herself: “Jelly Babie calling that cashier mac [SIC] shows gore ke ngwana and she’s getting too big for her shoes.”

Thus far, Jelly Babie has not acknowledged the incident with a public statement, nor has she interacted with her followers regarding the matter.

This is a developing story.
