Sishii returns back to basics with the release of his single “I Don’t Dance” in anticipation of his debut EP

Gomora star Ntobeko Sishi has decided to refocus all his attention on his music career – releasing a single from his debut EP titled “I Don’t Dance” (IDD) today.

This refocus required him to put his acting career on hold a little and immerse himself fully into his music, something that had shared his attention with his other love acting. And to do so, the star  will be bowing out of the popular telenovela Gomora this week, bidding farewell to the beloved character Ntokozo, as he steps into his new path of music.

Although music is not new to him, having released songs here and there over the years, this bold step to pause all other dreams for this dream has been long time coming, he says.

“While I can’t confirm nor deny what will happen to the character of Ntokozo, taking a leap into my music is something that I’ve always wanted to do, something I’ve always been passionate about and something I’ve always been doing, actually,” with his first single released in the year 2020.

“Diving into the music full time is my biggest priority right now, and I will be performing live in June – something I haven’t done in three years,” he said.

Music took a backseat when the acting opportunity came in the form of Ntokozo in Gomora but it was also right as the country was placed on Covid-19 restrictions that would have hindered his travel to the New York University, where he had applied to do his Masters in Music Business.

“Timing, I guess,”  he said.

“The option to study remotely was presented to me but that is not what I wanted. I wanted to fully immerse myself in the music culture and business – and how hectic things are. I believe that if I make it there, I can make it globally. I wanted to go there to be a musician, coupled with the qualification obviously, but the career part of it has always been of interest.

“Music has always meant something to me from as young as 13 years old when I started writing music. I started singing at 7 years and when the writing started, I remember how I was always in search of people to work with. Music has always been a priority, I guess everything worked together for this moment,” he said.

Sishii, a stage name taken from his surname – with an extra i at the end, adds that this decision was also prompted by wanting to see how much success he can garner when he just focuses. “Because so far, while splitting my attention, I have been able to do so much. So this is more of me pushing and testing myself and giving music my all. I am really excited.”

I Don’t Dance’ out now via Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa.

The song is the third from his upcoming nine track EP titled, “A Night In The Hills”, that will tell a tale of his university life. The music will drop on May 9th, a tale that takes us through his life as a devout christian, exploration of life, groove life, studies and finding yourself through it all.

“My music is and will always be honest and true to who I am. I always say that the truth of my life is all in my music – just read the lyrics and you will see me. I take my music, and acting career, that seriously because it all starts with me. I check if the work will heal and move me, and if it does justice to me – then it will definitely touch the next person.”

He confirms that he hasn’t entirely bowed out of the acting craft, saying there is a project that he is currently working on and will reveal it in due time.

“Ntokozo was a huge blessing in my life because he came at a time when I was so insecure and anxious about everything. For the first two years on GomoraI didn’t really believe that I could act. Being able to work with the incredible cast with actors like Zolisa Xaluva, Katlego Danke, Mam’Connie Chiume, Thembi Seete and Sana Mchunu – they would constantly give me advice and that contributed to a positive environment and that added to my craft.

“Secondly, the character enabled me to express  myself in ways I have never been able to before. Ntokozo was quite explosive and pushed me out of my comfort zone and that stretched me as an artist,” he said.

Excited about his next step, Sishii is aiming for global status within the music industry – with his eyes steadily focused on touring globally and being an artist that is relatable to everyone regardless of location.
