Shocking Development In the AKA Trial As State Implicates A Member of Feared Taxi Collective

A groundbreaking development has unfolded in the trial of slain rapper and singer Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his companion Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

On Wednesday at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, the State revealed that a man by the name of Sydney Mfunda Gcaba could be traced within the events that led up to the assassination of the award-winning hip-hop star.

“It was further established from the bank records of applicant 4, [Mziwethemba] Gwabeni, that on the 11th of February 2023, at approximately 14:00, he received an amount of R803, 455. Cellular phone records of applicant 4 show that prior to the money being deposited, a call is made by him to a number linked to Mr. Sydney Mfunda Gcaba. Shortly after this call, an amount of R803, 455 is transferred into the bank account of the applicant,” the State said.

Moreover, the State also deducted that amount that was used to carry out the hit was transferred from a company called Bright Circle (pty) LTD, whose sole director, according to company records, is Sydney Mfunda Gcaba.

The alleged accomplice, Sydney, is part of the the Gcaba brothers, who are well-known around KZN for being fierce operators in the taxi business circuit.

The latest development casts a darker veil on the mystery behind who exactly is the mastermind that instigated the hit on the rapper and Tibz, as the news turns the matter into a rat race.

The investigation into the murder of AKA and Tibz is ongoing.
