Shimza Pays Tribute to Home with “Sunset in Pretoria” EP, Out 19 June via Kunye Records

Shortly after launching his highly anticipated residency at Pacha Ibiza this summer, South African electronic music icon Shimza returns with Sunset in Pretoria, a three-track EP releasing on 19 June 2026 on his own label imprint Kunye.

Featuring a carefully curated cast of local and international collaborators, the project is a deeply emotive tribute to South Africa and a powerful statement of where Afro House stands on the global stage. Across its three tracks, Sunset in Pretoria moves through multiple shades of South African electronic music, weaving atmosphere, melody and rhythm into a cohesive and personal body of work that is as rooted in home as it is resonant on dancefloors around the world.

A Cinematic Opening

The EP’s title track, “Sunset in Pretoria,” sets the tone in collaboration with French and Dubai-based producer Demayä. Unfolding with cinematic restraint, the record layers warm pads, hypnotic percussion and soaring melodic flourishes to evoke the stillness and colour of a Pretoria dusk. What begins as quiet and contemplative gradually builds into an expansive, transportive groove, a fitting overture for an EP that is as much about feeling as it is about sound.

Local Legends Unite

“uMa Wami” brings together Shimza, Thatohasti and Jnr SA in a vocal-led offering that balances rolling rhythms with soulful harmonies. The result is a record that feels simultaneously intimate and uplifting, a celebration of South African voices in full conversation with one another.

Thatohasti arrives on the EP at a defining moment in her career. Currently one of Spotify’s most-streamed female artists in South Africa and fresh off significant charting success with her latest album, she brings a distinct local feminine energy to a project that is fundamentally about bridging home and the world.

An Emotional Closing

“Entle,” featuring Jabulani Majola, closes the EP at its most emotionally charged. Built around expressive vocals and a slow-burning arrangement, the track balances tenderness with momentum. Its rich instrumentation unfolds with quiet intensity before arriving at a powerful and deeply satisfying release, bringing the EP full circle.
