“I live in a dance nation and this is just one of those genres that have always spoken to me. Yes hip hop has and will always be my first love but it doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy anything else. I also wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do anything else that is outside my comfort zone,” she said.
Miss Cosmo not only challenged herself but also the featured artists on the song – taking Kamo and Blxckie outside their original genres as well.
“The inspiration behind the song was the desire to create something hot, something cool for the Summer that (I believe) is enjoyable. Of course the song being South African, the term ‘woza la’ is relatable to many.
“It is one of those phrases that can be used in different spaces to speak on different things. Whether you are calling on good vibes, calling on a good groove, positivity, blessings whatever it is. Everything must Woza La for December,” she said.
Miss Cosmo, real name Nonqaba Rwaxa, has made a remarkable mark for over a decade now – gracing major stages alongside global superstars like Kanye West, Chris Brown, and Kendrick Lamar; with prior releases featuring prominent artists such as Nasty C, Sho Madjozi, Moonchild Sanelly, and more.
“The people I have featured on the song are honestly my favourites at the moment and I feel like with Blxckie, he is so versatile when it comes to his hip hop/rnb and dabbles in amapiano as well. Kamo is the dance queen right now and seeing her challenge herself by rapping on a gqom was also special to see come to life,” adding also that Nobantu and Rudeboyz were also an integral part of the song with their varying talents. .
Miss Cosmo shares that her many years within the industry can easily be attributed to her love for music, entertainment and also seeing her contribution to it. And when she isn’t releasing, admitting that like anyone else she faces a considerable amount of creative freeze, being a DJ and being exposed to other artist’s music keeps her on her toes.
She also shares that there is more music coming up probably in the next year and will continue on the path of unexpected sounds from her.
“I know the song is extremely different coming from me but that is exactly what I want. I want people to open their hearts, minds and pallets to music in its entirety. I don’t want people to think linear and just enjoy music for what it is,” she said.
