PDSTRN and Sholz Narrate Nigerian Boss Life With Their Latest Single “IDAN”

Following the success of his collaboration with rap titan Vector on “Offer,” rising Nigerian rap sensation PDSTRN releases his latest single “IDAN,” featuring renowned producer Sholz. Born Bennett Obeya, PDSTRN (pronounced Pedestrian) first caught the nation’s attention when he clinched the top spot in the fiercely competitive Hennessy Artistry VS Class 2022. Emerging victorious from a pool of over a thousand contestants, PDSTRN’s lyrical prowess and unmatched creativity exemplified Hennessy’s “Never Stop, Never Settle” spirit. This victory was a prophecy of the seismic impact PDSTRN would have on the hip-hop and Afrobeats scenes.

Now, with “IDAN,” PDSTRN is poised to elevate his artistry even further. “IDAN,” a title that translates to “BOSS” in Yoruba, is a pulsating fusion of rap and Afrobeats that showcases PDSTRN at his most uncompromising and vibrant. The song vividly explores the boss lifestyle, where business acumen and playful extravagance intertwine. With a runtime of over three minutes, PDSTRN dissects themes of lust, thrill, ego, and bravado. With surgical precision, it paints a portrait of street credibility that’s alluring and cautionary.

PDSTRN’s impeccable cadence serves as the vehicle for street-smart philosophizing. “You can listen to me drop gems as I speak on Boss activities that we partake in,” PDSTRN explains, his words a roadmap to a world where the high life is balanced precariously with its inherent dangers.

What sets “IDAN” apart is its unapologetic bravado. PDSTRN’s world is rendered in high definition, each bar a brushstroke in a larger-than-life self-portrait. The track culminates in a haunting Yoruba ballad that loosely translates to “Money is the head over the problem, when it gets to the mouth of the problem…problem is satisfied.” This powerful ending, featuring guest vocalists, adds depth and cultural resonance to an already rich sonic experience.

The creation of “IDAN” was as gritty and real as the song itself. Born in a three-week creative crucible in an Ikoyi apartment, the track emerged amidst power outages, equipment failures, and noise complaints from disgruntled neighbours. “Every second and minute we spent working on this song and the project as a whole played a huge part in the composition,” PDSTRN reflects, “and I don’t think I would have added or taken anything away from the experience.”

“IDAN” is a tantalizing preview of PDSTRN and Sholz’s upcoming EP, “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” This collaborative project marks PDSTRN’s first extended work with Sholz, a producer renowned for his alternative/cinematic soundscapes and a keen eye for emerging talent.

“Rock, Paper, Scissors” promises to be a mood album that showcases PDSTRN’s storytelling prowess, penchant for dark tones, and ability to flow effortlessly over expansive beats. The EP aims to capture the mindset of young hustlers enjoyably and engagingly, all while maintaining an unmistakable Lagos vibe. This collaboration between PDSTRN’s raw talent and Sholz’s innovative production is poised to push the boundaries of Nigerian Hip-Hop and Afrobeats.

With “IDAN” and the forthcoming “Rock, Paper, Scissors” EP, PDSTRN’s music is a rallying cry for hustlers, a love letter to loyalty, and an anthem for ambition. As the latest offering in PDSTRN’s rapidly evolving artistic journey, “IDAN” leaves listeners eagerly anticipating the full EP and his next moves in a game he’s clearly poised to dominate.
