Mzansi shocked at the passing of Mampintsha’s mother Zamanguni Gumede

Just three weeks after burying Big Nuz’s star Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, the family has yet again suffered another loss of life in the shape of the kwaito icon’s mother, Zamanguni Gumede. Gumede passed away at 64 years on Sunday, 15 January 2023, with news resurfacing on social media platforms the following day.

Pinky Gumede, Mampintsha’s sister, confirmed the sad news to a local newspaper, Daily Sun.

Recounting her mother’s final moments, Pinky said Zamanguni called them at 10 pm to come visit her at the hospital. “When we arrived, she said she wanted to say her last goodbyes. She left us at 11 pm,” she told another local publication.

Zamanguni was admitted into Wentworth Hospital shortly after suffering a stroke. Pinky highlighted how the untimely passing of Mampintsha had a profound impact on Gumede’s health, which was already plagued by liver problems dating back to 2016.

“She’s not taking Mandla’s death well,” Pinky had said weeks ago. “She started feeling ill before him but got worse when he was first admitted to the hospital.” Pinky also mentioned that Gumede had not been able to “eat properly”, which negatively impacted on her taking her medication, leading to further health deterioration.

Apart from being known as Mampintsha’s mother, Gumede was also known for her controversial feud with her daughter-in-law, Babes Wodumo.

The pair were never shied away from displaying their rocky relationship publicly, which sometimes left the late Mampintsha in the middle.

Gumede had made it public knowledge on the couple’s reality TV show, Showmax’s Uthando Lodumo. that she frowned on their marriage, with the tension between them culminating in Babes Wodumo threatening to get into a fight with her mother-in-law.

The two, however, seemingly reconciled before Mampintsha’s departure, with the late kwaito star posting a picture of Zamanguni kissing Babes on the cheek. During her husband’s funeral, Babes Wodumo went on to tell her mother-in-law that she’d forgiven her of all her past sins.

Babes Wodumo has since posted her farewell message on her husband’s Facebook wall, saying “…please send my regards to my husband. Rest in peace Magumede“.

No further details about Gumede’s funeral have been issued as yet.

Tweeps took to Twitter to expressed their shock to the news of Zamanguni’s passing.
