K.O speaks up about copyright allegations around hit song SETE
K. O has finally broken his silence against the accusations levelled against him about plagiarizing another song that closely resembles his chart-topping hit SETE.
The Skanda Republic 3’s flagship single came under online scrutiny after Tuesday’s Podcast and Chill episode, in which MacG and Sol Phenduka exchanged thoughts about SETE being a supposed ‘chopped’ version of Feeling for You by Ghanaian artist Reefer Tym.
Podcast anchor host MacG asked, “Do you think he chopped the song or just the sound….,” to which Sol responds, “There, there’s something bro. I think it’s the sample. I don’t know whether they (other artists who have used the same sound) all sampled the same or what, but it’s not even like a familiarity thing.”
MacG also encouraged viewers to search the songs and make their own judgement.
Tweeps came guns blazing thereafter to a mixed bag of opinions, with many posting screenshots of Feeling for You along with their remarks.
The award-winning rapper gave an update where he elaborated that he purchased the beat for SETE from the original producer Callimajik via an online platform.
Since its release, SETE has broken long-standing music chart records while also establishing new ones, and is currently clocking over 20 million views on YouTube.
K. O’s banger features Young Stunna and Blxckie and was awarded Spotify’s most streamed song in South Africa in 2022.
