Mzansi Rapper AKA shot dead in Durban
The news of AKA’s passing, emerging yesterday evening (Friday February 10th), has sent shockwaves across the continent. The Fela in Versace hitmaker was allegedly gunned down by two unknown gunmen in Durban’s Morningside, on Florida Road.
According to the last few posts on SuperMega’s Instagram reels, he was due to perform at YūGō in Durban for his birthday celebration, but the event was later canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Details around the shooting are still unknown.
In a statement released this morning, sent out on behalf of AKA’s mother and father, the Forbes family are yet to be updated on further details surrounding this unfortunate incident from the Durban Police.
“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo,” read the statement.
In a video released of Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the police, he confirmed the shooting of the 35-year-old artist and what he referred to as his bodyguard, stating that as they were leaving the club, two unknown gunmen approached them on foot and opened fire “killing them instantly.”
The man who was killed alongside AKA has been identified on social media as the muso’s former manager and businessman Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.
Fellow industry peers have since expressed their shock, with fans reminiscing over the great music AKA has given the world for over 11 years.
