Bokani Dyer set to launch his critically acclaimed new album, Radio Sechaba, at Untitled Basement
Just over two months after its release, Bokani Dyer is launching his critically acclaimed album, Radio Sechaba, this coming Friday in Johannesburg.
The first South African launch of the award-winning artist’s new album takes place at Untitled Basement in Braamfontein and is an opportunity to see Dyer performing in the city where Radio Sechaba was recorded.
“I feel it is fitting to perform first in Joburg – the city where the music was inspired, conceived, written and recorded,” said Dyer of his upcoming launch show.
“I’m really looking forward to my performance at the Untitled, Radio Sechaba is a project that is very special to me and I am looking forward to presenting the live band version. It’s going to be an amazing night!”
Dyer will be accompanied by a fantastic band including Leagan Starchild on drums, Shane Cooper on bass, Keenan Ahrends on guitar, Bonj on vocals and Ntsikelelo Mcwabe & Sthe Bhengu on trumpets.
Since its release in May, through the UK-based Brownswood Recordings, Radio Sechaba has earned critical praise with London Jazz News describing it as a “great sounding record’ and stating: “It’s no secret that South African jazz is going through an exciting and creative period, and one of the artists at the forefront of the scene is 37-year-old pianist and producer Bokani Dyer.”
In its review All About Jazz said: “Synthesizing a set of broad influences and building sounds of possibility surrounding his homeland and a global community, Dyer delivers an irresistible amalgam for our times and future.”
