Asavela Mqokiyaka to Appear in Court Following Arrest for Reckless Speeding
Actress Asavela Mqokiyana is set to appear at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on the 28th of October 2026 following her arrest for reckless driving and going over the speeding limit. The Isibaya star was apprehended earlier this month and made her first court appearance as the KwaZulu-Natal authorities continue their strict crackdowns under the #NenzaniLeEzweni campaign with the festive season on the horizon.
According to a statement by the province’s MEC of Transport and Human Settlement, Siboniso Duma, Mqokiyana was caught doing 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone with her BMW X3. Mqokiyana was hand-cuffed by the Road Traffic Inspectorate crew on the N2 at Ellingham before she made her first court appearance on the 19th of October 2026.

Since the issuing of the statement, Asavela’s mugshot has been doing rounds on the socials, with questions being posed by the masses as to whether the arrest was legitimate or a means of campaigning against reckless driving during the festive season. There have also been questions about the mugshot itself, with people noting that mugshot publication wasn’t part of South Africa’s culture.
Concerning the announcement of the arrest, Asavela hasn’t commented on her run-in with the law and her imminent court appearance.
