AKA to release his long-awaited album ‘Mass Country’ this January

Megacity will once again be gifted with a full body of work, as the rap star announces his next release date. The announcement was made in an interview on Slikour Onlife, aired this past Tuesday.

After months of teasing fans about the project, he confirmed the release date to be on the January 27th, 2023, a day shy of his 34th birthday,

In the interview with Siya “Slikour” Metane, Super Mega – as he is affectionately known – dubbed the sound on his upcoming album as a “classic AKA sound”, adding that “it’s gonna be fantastic.”.

He describes his creative process being dependent on what he is trying to achieve.

“With Bovamania, it was very experimental because it was in the middle of Covid. I needed to put out music to soothe my soul. But now that we are outside again, now we can mingle more and I can get more producers together and we can go on studio camps together, and take more time with the sound. And that is what I am doing to come out with something new.

“I called it Mass Country because I wanted to touch on you know…Mass Country / Maskandi – that is kinda the play on it. That is also a nod to the fact that there will be a lot of South African traditional sounds but also laced with pop, laced with hip hop, a little kwaito influence. I will put all that in the pot and come up with something magical,” he said.

About releasing new music and bagging the amount of success he has thus far, he said, “I never take it for granted when you put out music and people receive it well … especially if you have been doing it for as long as I have been. It’s just a fantastic feeling.

“I think more than ever, having gone through the ups and downs, I am more appreciative of success and I’m a bit more ready for the success,” he said.

The imminent album release follows the successful release of two singles namely “Paradise” and “Lemons (Lemonade)” which features Nasty C.
