The Price of Fame with Lady Zamar

The Price of Fame with Lady Zamar

Fame is a double-edged sword—shining bright but casting shadows. But with the spotlight comes scrutiny. As her fame soared, so did the public’s interest in her private life. The very stage that amplified her voice also opened the door to criticism, misunderstandings, and pressure that few outside the industry can truly grasp. For Lady Zamar, fame has been both a blessing and a challenge—a complex journey filled with triumphs and trials.

In her own words, Lady Zamar unpacks the upside and downside of being in the public eye—offering a raw and honest look at what fame has truly meant for her.

UPSIDES

1. Getting to skip the line — I’ve lost count of how many times, as soon as my name is called, I just breeze past those long, slow-moving lines. I never take this for granted; I genuinely appreciate every single time it happens.

2. People care about your food orders a bit more walking into a restaurant can sometimes feel like coming home because it often feels like my order gets special treatment. There are countless moments I could share, but honestly, it just happens so often — LOL!

3. People are always looking out for you  when I was admitted to Parklane Hospital back in 2020, the nurses treated me with such kindness and care that my whole stay felt much more comfortable than I expected.

4. You get offered loads of deals  brands trust you enough to team up with you, not just to grow your career, but to create something magical — and that comes with a bunch of cool perks. I’ve worked with quite a few, but Shell V-Power in 2019 stands out as a phenomenal experience. Aldo, that same year, was another highlight. These partnerships truly mean the world to me.

5. You get a lot of free stuff — From PR drops to surprise cellphone gifts, being a “celebrity,” as they call us, definitely has its sweet perks. For example, in 2023, I got to work with the HUAWEI nova Y91 — and that means you’re one of the lucky few to get your hands on something special. Pretty cool, right?

DOWNSIDES

1. Privacy? What privacy? People want to know your business all the time. It feels like there’s never any room left for privacy once you’re well-known — everything about you becomes public property.

2. Judged before you even say hi — People always jump to conclusions when they see you walking down the street or shopping at the mall. When I greet someone, they assume it’s just because I’m famous and want attention, rather than the simple fact that I was raised well — taught to have good manners and respect. It’s like we lose our humanity and just become a celebrity stereotype.

3. Prices suddenly shoot through the roof  everythingfeels more expensive when someone knows who you are. It’s like people automatically inflate prices just because they think you can afford it, which can be so frustrating.

4. Smiling through it all — Even on days when you’re feeling sick, exhausted, or dealing with those tough “women days,” there’s this unspoken rule that you have tokeep smiling and be nice to everyone — no exceptions.

5. That gut feeling kicks in  At times, like at clubs or festivals, the atmosphere can get a bit unsettling. Not necessarily unsafe, but your fight-or-flight senses switch on immediately. Imagine someone suddenly running up to you, screaming, and jumping on you — it’s disorienting. I remember performing at a show where the crowd pushed really close to the stage, and one guy actually reached out and started rubbing my bum. That was definitely not cool. But despite moments like these, I still appreciate all the love and support from fans.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose to be famous?

“I appreciate the access that comes with being known, but I don’t love the lack of privacy,” she says candidly. “If I could do it all over again, I’d still choose to be famous. I’d just mind-control people to focus only on my music and nothing else,” she adds with a playful giggle.
