The Price of Fame with Gigi Lamayne
Gigi Lamayne is a powerhouse in music and no stranger to the spotlight. With over 10 years in the game, she’s seen the highs and lows of the industry and learned every lesson along the way.
She calls 2025 her most life-changing year yet—a time of deep spiritual growth, bold business moves with her wellness lounge and media work, and of course, new music. Her latest album, Doves and Scones, is what she calls “an album straight from the soul. It’s my most honest work to date, touching on everything from rebirth and grief to finding joy again.”
With so much happening, Gigi opens up about her top five highs and lows of life as a superstar.
UPSIDES

- Free designer wig installs and face beats on speed dial.
Listen, sometimes I don’t even ask! I just post a selfie and a DM pops up like, “Sis, let me lace you up!” Shout out to glam teams who make me look rich even when my soul is tired!
2. First-class flights for work… and then some “extended work trips.”
Being flown out to perform in places I used to only Google? It never gets old. That time I performed in Ghana and turned it into a week-long culture tour? Blessings.
3. VIP access with zero RSVP.
Whether it’s a packed party or an exclusive gala, if the name “Gigi” is dropped at the door, it’s like magic—security parts like the Red Sea. It still humbles me.
4. Brand deals that speak to my soul and my bank account.
Partnering with brands like Chateau Del Rei has been chef’s kiss. Getting paid to be my authentic self? Yes, please. That’s generational bag building.
5. Inspiring people I’ll never meet in person.
The DMs from girls who say I gave them the confidence to rap, study, or leave toxic spaces? That’s the real reward. That’s the real legacy.
DOWNSIDES

- Being everyone’s therapist—at the petrol station.
Sometimes I just want petrol and peace, but people will pour out their life stories while I’m holding a pump. I’m flattered, but girl, I’m just trying to make it to the studio!
2. Everyone has an opinion—especially strangers.
You’ll post your graduation photo and someone will still say, “She’s doing too much.” Like, sir, go fight your own potential!
3. Friends can become fans—and that’s not always cute.
There’s a difference between genuine support and people sticking around for clout. Fame filters your circle real quick.
4. No such thing as a “bad day in public.”
Popped out to Clicks in my doek and Crocs? Boom—now I’m on the blogs looking like a confused house DJ. No one told me being famous meant being a full-time brand!
5. The fear of being misunderstood.
Fame doesn’t come with context. A tweet taken wrong, a clip edited sideways—it can be emotionally draining when people build a story around a moment.
If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose to be famous?

“Absolutely. But with boundaries. Fame has opened doors for me, yes—but it also forced me to know myself deeply and protect my peace. I wouldn’t change the journey, but I’d remind anyone chasing fame: make sure your soul is louder than the noise. The spotlight is beautiful, but, baby, it gets hot under there.”
