Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) Is Back with A Bang
Popular fashion extravaganza, the Soweto Fashion Week (SFW), is back with a bang after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Presenting its 18th season, this year the high-end do is themed at “Trans-seasonal Presentation Showcase’, inspired by the fashion exhibition’s 2-year hiatus and aims to allow designers the creative freedom to freestyle at this year’s showcase, according to founder Stephen Manzini.
Like many other industries, the fashion industry was brought to its knees due to the Covid pandemic, but the SFW is looking to shine that light once again for all fashion enthusiasts on Friday 2nd.

Since its inception, the SFW brand has assisted various fashion designers and models to catapult their businesses, while maintaining a standard of successful fashion shows. And this year is no different. With 7 grand designers scheduled, attending guests will be treated to vary fashion items that range from ready-to-wear to contemporary to haute couture – in one night. Fashion items will be the designer’s take on the Summer/Spring and Winter/Autumn designs.
Fashion houses such as N.O.T.E by Elias Sibata, Uju Designs and MacGale are names expected at the relaunch.
“Most of our designers have outgrown the up and coming title some may not be famous but they definitely have serious clientele. The truth is not every designer is going to be well-known but they can have a thriving business Hence starting from this season we will be creating an emerging designer block that will Showcase before our main shows,” said Manzini.
“Attendees can expect to be surprised. By the way, guests are also free to express themselves through fashion however they see fit and that’s what our shows are all about. As Africans, we are loud people and that’s one of the reasons people have loved our shows for. Unlike other outer catwalk experiences,” he added.

Friday’s launch of the SFW will set the tone for the grander exhibition, that is set to take place on May 2023, in time for the Autumn/ Winter collection. There, twenty-five emerging and household designers will showcase their work.
Tickets for the relaunch can be purchased at Web Tickets for R50.
