Skye Wanda bags two Basadi in Music nominations and is ready to reap the rewards for her hard work

Multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer Skye Wanda has impressively bagged herself two nominations for this year’s Basadi In Music Awards.

These nominations come right as the muso still savours her recent accolades, namely the SAMRO SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR and just recently the HOUSE SONG OF THE YEAR at the 2023 Metro FM Music Awards.

With these two nominations, that she is confident of walking away with on August 12, the star said she feels like she has entered into her season of reaping after almost 15 years of sowing within the music industry.

The AMAZWI hit-maker will battle it out with artists such as Uncle Waffles, Makhadzi, Simmy and Nuzu Deep, among others, in the categories ARTIST OF THE YEAR and DANCE ARTIST OF THE YEAR.

To say she is excited would be an understatement.

“The journey that led to now has been a difficult one and now seeing my work being recognised is an honour. I’ve gone through the changes from no social media to having social media to having digital distribution, etc. Every level has its difficulties but it’s all about moving with the times and being able to stay relevant throughout the years.

“I have also been on a journey of finding my voice and niche and I think now I have mastered what works for me. The proof is definitely in the recognition,” she said.

The Basadi in Music Awards ceremony is more than just an awards platform, but a movement that seeks to create a space for women to network and grow. Skye Wanda said that being associated with such an awards ceremony is more than a confidence booster but an opportunity that can further expand her craft with possible collaborations.

“What Batsadi is doing for women, giving us a platform that is solely dedicated to us within an industry that is so unbalanced, is groundbreaking. This is an exclusive platform for us where we will not only get to work together but just amazing that we get to debunk the narrative that women are always at odds. Here we are appreciating each other, we are acknowledging each other’s work.

“I am meeting artists that I never knew were there, because they were not receiving the recognition that they deserve, and it’s so exciting. So Basadi is unearthing talent, they are exposing talent, they are promoting talent and being associated with such a great movement is humbling,” she said.

Skye Wanda is currently completing her project, titled Star Lights, which is 90% almost completed.

“I am looking for a release at the end of August beginning of September and whether it’ll be an EP or full length album is yet to be decided. I was kinda hoping to have more features but the project has just been taking a different direction, which I am happy with because the music is amazing. I have been writing from my heart, directly from my heart.

“There’s a lot of honesty in the lyrical content and the production are people I have always wanted to work with, that I finally got to.
