Singer-Songwriter Nomfundo Moh Talks About Her Latest Album And What Inspires Her to Make Music
SAMA-winning singer-songwriter Nomfundo Moh recently immortalised her age by releasing a studio album named after it: Twenty Four. Already her third official LP after Amagama and Ugcobo, the young household name has already consolidated her position as one of the country’s finest commercial afro-pop musicians. With multiple plaques, multitudes of followers, and an ever-expanding discography, Moh’s forged for herself an enviable career since her breakthrough single “Phakade Lami”.
With the Malibongwe Arts Festival: Tribute For Women slated for the 25th of August 2024, Nomfundo will be joining the likes of Lwah Ndlunkulu, Kelvin Momo, Zonke, Ringo Madlingonzi, and the Jaziel Brothers for what will be a family-friendly spectacle at Marks Park in Johannesburg. We caught up with the songbird to chat about her latest album, what inspires her, and how she feels about her upcoming performance at the Tribute for Women event.

How have you been celebrating Women’s Months?
Nomfundo: I have been celebrating Women’s month by doing “word of the day” every Monday to empower people and have been quoting powerful lines from my songs to motivate my fellow queens.
You’ve just released your third studio album Twenty Four, can you tell us a bit about this project?
Nomfundo: My latest offering, TWENTY FOUR, is named after my age and is an affirmation project that one is indeed on the right track, although we are still figuring life out, but we are where we are supposed to be in this moment.
Three albums by the age of 24 is unheard of. What and/or who has inspired or motivated you through your music creation journey?
Nomfundo: I create music when I’m happy and when I’m sad. That means I always have unreleased songs waiting for that time to be heard by the world. So, I release an album whenever I feel the need to, because the music is already created, so why not share it with people?

Who are some South African women doing amazing things that inspire you?
Nomfundo: DJ Zinhle is one of the women in SA who inspire me. She’s goal-driven hence the success of everything she puts her mind to.
What role have women played in shaping the woman that you are today?
Nomfundo: I’ve been raised by women with love, care and warmth. They have taught me self-respect, hard work and composure. I will forever be grateful for that.
What message can you give young girls reading your interview that are also looking to pursue their dreams and goals?
Nomfundo: To young girls, I’d like to advise them to not forget who they are and where they come from. They should never get tired of trying to. Opportunities present themselves to those who try.
