Shocking Video of Cape Town Businessman Assaulting His Wife In Front of Their Daughter Surfaces

A video of a Cape Town businessman viciously attacking his wife in the presence of their young daughter has recently surfaced. This follows the man’s appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he appeared on charges of assault.

In the black-and-white footage, with their faces concealed to protect the minor, the man is seen punching the woman repeatedly while their daughter tries to intervene – flailing her arms to fight him off.

After throwing his phone off the bed, he climbs on the woman and rains fists on her, despite the daughter being in the way.

The woman barely fends off the man with her legs before he drags her off the bed and onto the floor. The child is also pulled down, but the man continues his onslaught on the woman. The daughter looks on helplessly as the man appears to have her hands on her mother, seemingly strangling her.

According to AfriForum, who are acting on behalf of the mother and child, the incident recorded in the video wasn’t the first time the businessman assaulted his wife. A case had been opened years ago, which subsequently didn’t go far.

“Several incidents were captured by the couple’s closed-circuit TV. In August 2018, the unit’s client opened a case of assault against her husband. The police arrested the accused, and he was later granted bail. Unfortunately, years of physical and emotional abuse had taken its (sic) toll on the woman and her daughter. Her then attorney told the prosecutor that they were emotionally unfit to testify – the case was subsequently withdrawn,” a media statement read.

According to IOL, AfriForum has engaged with the woman and will be taking the matter further once more.

AfriForum’s private prosecution unit’s spokesperson Barry Bateman said: “We will keep a close eye on this case to ensure justice is done. We appeal to victims of gender-based violence to speak out and seek support.

“There will always be someone to stand by your side, like our unit, which has assisted many women in similar positions.”
