Nota Baloyi’s U.S. Visa Revoked Following X Post Mocking Charlie Kirk’s Shooting
Controversial music executive and polarising social media commentator Nota Baloyi’s US Visa has been revoked. The United States authorities cracked down on Nota’s digital footprint and unearthed derogatory comments he made concerning the assassination of American politician and writer Charlie Kirk. This comes after the US State Department’s concerted efforts in vetting the social media activities of those wishing to travel to the country in order to find out if they hold anti-American views, particularly in the wake of the shooting of Kirk and the aftermath of the incident.
On the 11th of September 2025, after Kirk got gunned down in Utah, Nota took to X to express his disdain for those who mourned the murder of the Republican, calling them “Neanderthals” and saying that he “won’t be remembered as a hero.”
In retaliation, the US State Department singled out this post and said: “A South African national mocked Americans grieving the loss of Kirk, saying “they’re hurt that the racist rally ended in attempted martyrdom” and alleging “he was used to astroturf a movement of white nationalist trailer trash. Visa revoked.” The post was prefaced by a base post in which the US State Department stated that it had “no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans,” and that Nota was one of the many “aliens” identified who are not welcome in the United States for the comments made about Kirk.
Following the revocation of the visa, Nota issued an apology statement via his X account, replying directly under the US State Department’s post that implicated him in the act of making a mockery of Kirk’s shooting. In the lengthy statement, Nota not only apologises for the things he said about Charlie Kirk and those who grieved his death, he also pledged his support for President Trump, claiming to be an endorser of free speech like the deceased.
He rounded off his statement with a wish to see the revocation reconsidered.
