Nota Baloyi Offers a Mixed Report Of His Time In Prison Since Being Set Free
It seems like all those struggle songs from Sarafina! have worked once more for polarising music executive and artist manager Nota Baloyi, with him being released from prison without serving his full sentence.
Baloyi was let off once again earlier this week, only a fortnight behind bars.
The mercurial public figure found himself handcuffed and being marched to his cell after being found in contempt of court due to a civil case involving himself and K.O, with Nota being nailed by the rapper for defamation of character. Nota had insinuated that the “SETE” hitmaker was complicit in the assassination of late hip-hop superstar AKA as well as the murder of his friend, Tibz, who was with him on the fateful night.
Nota, still his chirpy self, had some thoughts to share about his time in prison. And from the looks of it, Baloyi’s reports have been a mixed bag. On one hand, he seems to be happy that he’s a free man, but in other instances, he talks about his time on the inside with a sense of loss, even going as far as sympathising with former cellmates and the conditions they had to endure.
The hotheaded socialite offered commentary on the state of prison, lamenting the size of the cells he likened to a “coach”, while also speaking about the overcrowding: “Prison reminded me of the New York City subway. Only difference is being locked inside a cell the size of a coach with 69 men, 13 fellow South Africans for 18-21 hours a day… I feel for wardens. Some of whom have done life sentences just showing up for work, to babysit monsters.”
On top of speaking on ridding himself of prison food still circulating in his bowels, he said: “There’s no supper in jail. You get porridge for breakfast and 5 slices of bread after the nonsense they give us prisoners for lunch, fortunately for me, I converted to Judaism because the kosher menu has rice and better-quality protein than that of the Christians and pork, unlike Hallal!”
Nota, curiously, also spoke of his time on the inside with a sense of uncanny longing, speaking on being able to indulge on TV while expressing indignation: “As nice as it is to be out, I miss my brothers back inside Monster’s Inc… Watching SABC News from the prison cell, seeing our lovers, mothers, wives and sisters taking to the streets because the men that are supposed to protect them are locked down for 18 hours eating a meal a day!”
Nota is still due for his rape case initiated by actress Itumeleng Bokaba in January 2025.
This is a developing story.
