Netflix’s Blood & Water Returns: Date Release, Recap and Teaser Explanations

It’s Official: Netflix SA announced the premier date for the second season of Blood & Water. The popular drama series, which had viewers sitting at the edge of their seats when it aired during the national lockdown in 2020, ended with Puleng (protagonist played by Amamkele Qamata) revealing that Fikile (Khosi Ngema) is in fact her long lost sister who was kidnapped at birth as part of a human trafficking network.

“Fikile, on the 16th of August 2003, my sister Phumelele Khumalo was kidnapped at birth the same day you were born. I don’t think you’re who you think you are Fikile…” said Puleng to Fikile just before the credits began to roll.

The two high schoolers were in the midst of destroying one another’s lives before this big revelation, with Puleng revealing Fikile’s affair with the swim coach and Fikile outing Puleng’s father as a criminal to the school.

With the revelation of this bombshell, the audience was left with a cliffhanger that could lead to Fikile viewing Puleng as an obsessed nutcase who’s determined to ruin her life or an emotional breakthrough that encourages her to get to the bottom of her parentage.

What will happen with the twisted love triangle between Puleng, Wade and KB?

The recently released teaser for season two leaves us in as much suspense as the show itself, with its cryptic symbols, a revelation of new characters, and a suggestion of new secrets.

From the little that the teaser does reveal, it’s clear that secrets are plenty: much of the action is symbolically hidden by the school gymnasium’s pool of water. For instance, Puleng and Fikile tightly hold each other’s hands beneath water with a DNA document sinking before them. Could this suggest that the two have formed an alliance and that their biological relation is kept under wraps? Puleng is also seen hugging KB (Thabang Molaba) while she holds hands with Wade (Dillon Windvogel) beneath the water. Does this mean Puleng is still caught up in the twisted love triangle that had viewers in tears in the first season.

Well, it seems we’ll be able to get to the bottom of these mysteries on 24 September.
