Kat Sinivasan living his dream on House of Zwide as Zola
While joining E! Entertainment as Africa’s first ever local presenter was a huge deal for presenter Kat Sinivasan, the star has been at it for more than 15 years.
Sinivasan has been carving a name for himself within the entertainment industry since 2006 when he encountered his TV break on an SABC 2 reality show Famous! The talent show followed six hopefuls as they embarked on their journey of forming a pop group. That marked the beginning of an interesting ride for Sinivasan.
The all-round entertainer, real name Katleho Sinivasan, said he is always looking for avenues to grow his brand.
And now making his debut acting appearance on eTV’s popular telenovela House of Zwide is yet another proof of the hard work that has been brewing in taking his career to the next level. Kat has been a busy man, hosting various events and shows while working on his jewelry collection that is in collaboration with Black Betty Designs. Behind the scenes, Kat has been working as a Director and Creative Producer.
“And I have a few brand collaborations lined up that I can’t wait to share,” he said.
The multitalented star took time out of his very busy schedule to speak all things House of Zwide!
What about this character spoke to you and made you say yes to it and the show? Well I definitely wanted a challenge and I got it. I think it’s a great opportunity for me to show my range as a performer. The character is completely different to me in real life and I’m pretty sure Zola’s journey will be an interesting one to follow.
This is not your first acting opportunity, especially as someone who studied the art form. When did acting start becoming an art form that you wanted to follow seriously and why? I’ve always wanted to be a performer. I started performing as a kid for my family so I’ve always known that this is the path I wanted to take. I started acting seriously in high school when I studied musical theater.
Would you agree that E! Entertainment was/is a major career milestone for you? What has the network done for your career? It definitely is. I mean, it was just a dream for me and it came true. Putting me in rooms that I could only dream of being in, so it definitely did catapult my career.
What are your thoughts about being a multidimensional artist, like you are? I believe it’s very important to be able to do more than just one thing as an entertainer. Being limitless opens you up to more opportunities and endless possibilities.
Describe the character to us, in your own words. Zola has a duality to his personality. He is charming and passionate but he’s also easily triggered and unpredictable. And his dark side starts to to come to light the more you get to know him.
What are you hoping for this character? He’s very complex so I’m hoping that he is understood, I’m hoping that he is loved with all his flaws and I’m hoping that the character grows on the show.
What are you hoping for in your acting career? I definitely want to do a lot more roles and play a lot of different characters so I’m hoping this opens me up to more opportunities.
