Josiah De Disciple Mesmerises With His Latest Single “Mazza”, Featuring Kozzi SA
Amapiano record producer Josiah Makoela, professionally known as Josiah De Disciple, has graced the yanos scene with his latest single, “Mazza”. Lifted from his album Sounds of Gomora Vol. 2: The Healers Avenue, the song features vocals from Kozzi SA.
Much like the other seven songs of the eight-track project, “Mazza” features resounding basslines, orienting the single for groove life. The song kicks off with a hollow piano loop accompanied by steady-paced percussion before the log drum makes an understated entrance alongside Kozzi. “San’tshela ukuthi sisazofika,” he puts his foot in, seasoning the song with Sir Trill-esque vocal mannerisms.
The rising action of the song dovetails with Kozzi’s consistent vocal delivery, maintaining an upward gradient of flow and tempo. Culminating in a high-pitched pre-hook, Kozzi rides the production, engaging in hypnotic one-two interplay before launching into a climactic hook.
The middle of “Mazza” sees a brief reprieve as the song slows down, a trademark amapiano quality, stripping the song down to airy harmonies and a toned-down log drum. Kozzi immerses himself in the dip almost as if he and Josiah have mastered the ability to slow down time just to place greater emphasis on certain words. The song picks up thereafter, peaking once more before it caps the same way it started.
