ICYMI: The Grand Showdown at the White House Between Presidents Donald Trump and Cyril Ramaphosa

On the 21st of May 2025, all eyes were on the Oval Office, where President of the United States, Donald Trump, hosted South African Head of State Cyril Ramaphosa along with his delegates amid growing tensions between the countries exacerbated by the Afriforum-instigated propaganda of white genocide claims against white farmers in South Africa. In an effort to rebuild trade relations between the two sovereign states, Trump and Ramaphosa met up at the media-infested White House to discuss a way forward, and to clear the air on matters concerning the alleged genocide on white South African nationals.

The meeting between Trump and Ramaphosa came off the back of 49 Afrikaner nationals who took up the 47th US President’s Refugee status offer and relocated the States.

Ramaphosa showed up in Washington, D.C. with his team, including Minister in the Presidency of South Africa Khumbudzo Ntshavheni; Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition Parks Tau; Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola; and Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen. Another notable member who joined the trip to the US was South African magnate and billionaire Johann Rupert, who eventually had a moment to speak in the room.

From peace talks and mending trade relations to Trump pulling out all the stops in order to justify the alleged existence of targeted white farmer murders, the live-casted talks had people talking, from politicians to the masses, who had polarising reactions to the event.

One of the climaxes of the exchange was when Donald Trump doubled down on the claim of farm murders by turning on a clip of EFF Commander in Chief Julius Malema singing the “Kill the Boer” chant while arrayed in all red. The video was also accompanied by a road stretch lined with white crosses that the president of the US alleged was a mass burial site for murdered white farmers.

Twitter netizen @moesuttle commented about the discrepancy between the white genocide and selectively targeting Malema.

All of this has since been debunked, with the road being identified as P39-1, a once-anonymous highway linking Newcastle and Normandien. The crosses have not been found along that stretch according to BBC.

During the talks, Rupert seemingly chimed in to dismiss the claims of white genocide, instead citing that the problem in South Africa was crime, which affected all the citizens, not just white nationals. He also spotlighted the criminal element of illegal immigration and pleaded with Donald to help Mzansi while also roping in billionaire Elon Musk for assistance via Starlink, which has been suffering resistance from entering the South African market by laws and public disapproval.

Netizens were impressed with Rupert’s candour, while poking fun at him for calling out DA leadership and throwing out the claims of white genocide.

@kay_mahapa highlighted Rupert’s judgement of the DA, who have ran the Western Cape for a long time: “He runs the Western Cape. We have gang violence there.”

While the talks ended on a relatively cool note, the world awaits executive orders and policy reforms from each side in order to carve inroads on the matter.
