In parallel with the EP, Msaki and Jesse have been gradually unveiling a visual EP, expanding the ‘Entropy’ universe through a series of interconnected chapters. Following “Wayside Lover,” the duo released “Chapter 4,” the first official visual installment in the series, followed by the video for “How Dare You,” designated as Chapter 5, and recently released Chapter 2 Untimely Disclosure the duo will be sharing one more video to continue the unveiling of the entire visual album experience with Cruel World for Meaning Junkies the focal track and video of the EP.
“Cruel World for Meaning Junkies is a song I wrote for Jesse during a bit of a tough time, using a song Johnny Clegg wrote for Jesse as inspiration and quoting Jesse’s mom. This song was born from the process of combining something his mother once said to us as creatives, and as people she knows well, about our supple hearts and our ability and need to connect meaning to everything we make, everything we’re part of, and everything we experience. She called us “meaning junkies”. It felt like an accusation, but one full of endearment, empathy, and a little bit of caution. That phrase stayed with me. The other side of the song – “Cruel World” for meaning junkies – comes from Johnny Clegg’s “Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World.” I wrote a golden shovel poem using the first words of that song, so in the first verse of Cruel World for Meaning Junkies, you’ll see those words dispersed down the line, in the tradition of that poetic form,” shares Msaki.
