Donell Mbele, Sonia Mbele’s Son, Out On Bail After His Day in Court for Two Rape Counts
The 23-year-old son of actress and TV personality Sonia Mbele, Donell Mbele, appeared at the Randburg Magistrates Court on the 20th of January 2025, taking his standing after being charged with double rape counts.
Mbele was granted bail at R1000.

The charges were placed on Mbele by his then-girlfriend, Tamia, who took to social media to accuse him of rape, which she said took place on the 14th and the 15th of December 2024. The girl in question was a 17-year-old.
Backed by damning screenshots between the pair, leaked by the girl on her Instagram account – @_ttamia.c – the exchange between the former love birds sees the two of them embroiled in an emotional exchange, with Tamia indicating that it had not been the first time that Mbele did such to her. In addition, Mbele admitted to “hurting” her and that he could not “help myself”.

Since coming out on bail, Mbele has been active on his Instagram, uploading a pair of stories, one of them being a lyrical picture of 2Pac’s song “Better Dayz” with the words: “Better dayz is coming homebody”.
His mother, Sonia Mbele, who has been mum on the court case and the charges brought against her son broke her silence during a laconic interview with Drum, with the former Generations household name stating that: “There’s a whole lot that is not known and I’d rather not comment until the truth comes out in this case.”
This case was not the first time that Donell was caught on the wrong side of the law.
In 2022, Reokeditswe Makete, Donell’s ex-girlfriend, shared harrowing images of her face badly bruised and beaten up on her socials. Sonia Mbele issued a lengthy statement upon finding out about the abuse at the hands of her son, and assured the public that Donell would be held accountable for his misdeeds and that rehab would be key to helping him become a better person.
He was also arrested following those actions.
