DJ Maphorisa And L-Tido Trade Insults On the Socials After Sir Trill’s Appearance On The L-Tido Podcast

Tensions have spilled over between amapiano producer and vocalist DJ Maphorisa and hip-hop artist and podcaster L-Tido as the pair got into an insult-slinging back-and-forth on X over the latest episode of the L-Tido Podcast in which beleaguered amapiano singer-songwriter Sir Trill featured as a guest.

The renowned “Emlanjeni” hitmaker appeared on the L-Tido Podcast on the 10th of July 2024, with the episode’s focus hanging over putting a face and a name to the mysterious “Grootman” Sir Trill has been alluding to since coming out and expressing his music-related woes since early 2023.

The “Samsokolo” star has been expressive over the ill-treatment he has been receiving within the piano industry, particularly at the hands of the faceless “grootman”. In April 2024, Sir Trill shot an Instagram Live detailing his struggle concerning putting out new music, alleging that the grootman was pulling strings behind the scenes and sabotaging his new music by influencing other artists to distance themselves from him.

On the 49:35 mark of the episode of L-Tido’s podcast on YouTube, L-Tido ventured to trying to coax an answer out of Sir Trill regarding the identity of the so-called “grootman”. Asking his crew working behind the scenes to chip in, the “Smash” rapper canvased for opinions on who they thought Sir Trill might’ve been referring on his socials and on his Live videos.

They all unanimously threw DJ Maphorisa’s name into the conversation.

Sir Trill, during the interview, was qualified in his response to the assumptions, citing that not only did he not want to mention names, but that he would preserve the respect he had for the “grootman” because he viewed him as an elder.

Maphorisa finally broke his silence on the matter, taking to the socials to put both Sir Trill and L-Tido on blast.

Armed with a pair of screenshots – namely of proof of payment to Sir Trill and a conversation between the two regarding money for recorded material – Maphorisa aired his frustration with expletives. Criticising him for alleged lack of professionalism and being a no-show when booked to perform, the producer also known as Madumane chalked Sir Trill’s misfortunes up to karmic punishment from all those he felt he dealt with dishonestly in the past.

“Maybe [he’s] talking about other Grootman’s [SIC] this young man needs help. I remember him not going to the music video ya De Mthuda [for] “John Wick”. I knew we [were] gonna have a problem here. Self-sabotage [and] karma from all the promoters [you] f*cked [by] not pitching [up at] those gigs.” Maphorisa said in his tweet.

Maphorisa also had some heat for L-Tido, dropping an F-bomb on him and insulting his mother in the process.

Although L-Tido was reserved on the podcast, neither affirming nor fanning the flames regarding the accusations levelled against DJ Maphorisa being the grootman in question, his response to the tweet suggested otherwise.

The rapper hit back at Maphorisa with a scathing post, reinforcing his position as a bystander while calling him a “coward” who should “deal with the people you [have been] robbing, not me.”
