When Pamela Mtanga decided in her first year of studying her diploma in Electrical Engineering that media was her actual calling, little did she know of the formidable career that she would go on and carve for herself.
Eight years later, the media personality has achieved admirable accolades under her belt with the relaunch of her hair brand HoneyComb that came after two months of launching it.
Beauty, for Mtanga, is what launched the influencer side of things and as someone who was predominately raised by her father – finding her way to express her inner beauty was important.
“The one thing that draws me to beauty and fashion is that from as young as being a toddler, being raised by my dad meant that there was little to no fashion expression. When you look at my graduation pictures, I didn’t have pom poms or a nice graduation dress compared to my peers. My dad only knew what he knew – as a lawyer dad to a five year old, you only know so much.
“I never ever saw anything out of the ordinary because that was my life but in the same breath, I always promised myself that I would make a fashion statement everywhere I went. That I will look good and I will do all the things that I couldn’t – dress extra girly, love make up, love hair and love glam,” feeding her inner child, she said.
That love for beauty led her down the path of finding her own niche within the social media influencing space – although she had already started with media work from tertiary already. MC’ing gigs and managing influencers.
Morphing into owning her own hair brand was a natural step for the Gqebera-born entrepreneur. Moving forward from here, she is determined to make purposeful moves. Moves that will touch lives and make a difference.
“Happiness is a really important part of my overall journey. I strive for happiness personally because as a child, I didn’t necessarily think I was happy. I’ve had so many things that I constantly had to adapt to, things I had to come to terms with and the likes. I was raised by cousins, aunts and just different people. I moved around from family to family and as a child, you never really understood what that meant.

“So my dad when I was a bit younger and only when I was older did my mother become the most prominent figure in my life. That time, my dad was absent. So I went through so many stages and so many feelings in my life, that when it got to a point where I could make peace with it, I made a decision to be happy.
“And that is what my brand represents. Pure happiness that I wish everyone who encounters it feel equally happy,” she said.
Claiming her crown, in her pursuit of happiness and making others happy, Pamela is ready to expand her brand to further countries beyond Mzansi.
“I am rebranding holistically because now I am stepping into a new realm of entrepreneurship. I want to share myself more with people, how I grow as a business person but also the impact that I can have on people. Through my Beyond Human Nature entity, I want to extend myself in help. Like with the matric dress drive that we will do – to gather dresses from all my peers in the industry. So the month of August will see us invest in this very special occasion that marks every young girl’s high school journey,” she said.
“In everything that I do moving forward, I want to impact people’s lives positively. I want my brand to be meaningful, and as we all walk hand in hand in life – we pursue happiness, together,” she said.
