Chidimma Adetshina Leading the Race For Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 After Withdrawal From Miss SA
Former Miss SA 2024 finalist Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina is currently leading the pack in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria race since accepting the beauty pageant’s invitation in the wake of her withdrawal from contesting for the Miss SA prize.
Since being assigned place number 25, Adetshina has been contesting for the title under the banner of Miss Taraba. The winner of the pageant will be Nigeria’s official representative at the 2024 Miss Universe contest.

On National Women’s Day, the eve of the official crowning of Miss South Africa, Silverbird Group, the organisers of Miss Universe Nigeria, released a public invitation to Adetshina, encouraging her to enter for Nigeria’s premium beauty pageant. Citing Chidimma’s Naija’s heritage, courtesy of her father being of Nigerian ancestry, the statement urged the 23-year-old to enter for the contest, which “celebrates the strength, intelligence, and diversity of Nigerian women.”
Chidimma released a video via her Instagram on the 14th of August 2024, formally expressing gratitude towards Silverbird Group and accepting the invitation to participate at this year’s Miss Universe Nigeria competition.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina. I cannot start this video without expressing my gratitude to all the amazing/incredible people that have shown me so much love and support.
“I have received an invitation from the Silverbird Group who are the organizers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and I say this with great excitement because I have decided to accept this invitation,” she said regarding the invitation.

Since accepting the invitation, Chidimma has been soaring in the contest, which is decided through public voting. As of 19 August 2024, Chidimma has been leading her colleagues in the race after days of being in the running.
Despite entering the contest over ten days after the voting lines opened on the 3rd of August 2024, Adetshina has already secured an astounding 12 118 votes, amounting to 23,2% – the most so far by any contestant of Miss Universe Nigeria. She’s followed by contestant number 10, Edeifo Aikhuele, contesting as Miss Edo, currently sitting with 7892 votes (15.11%).
Voting lines are still open and they shall remain in such a condition till the 30th of August 2024.
