Captured on Tape: Newzroom Afrika Anchor Aldrin Sampear Caught in Road Scuffle and Charged with Assault
Newzroom Afrika anchor Aldrin Sampear has raised eyebrows with his questionable conduct after being caught on camera allegedly assaulting a woman amid the heat of a road rage incident.
In the footage that has been doing rounds on X, Sampear can be seen engaging in an emotionally-charged argument with another driver named Laricia Augusto, whom he accuses of showing him the middle finger while they were on the road. In the video, Aldrin is seen walking down the woman capturing the recording, pointing at her, and shouting: “Why did you give me the middle finger?”. Augusto admitted in an interview with The Citizen that she did flip him off.
Augusto can also be heard asking Aldrin why he was hitting her, which contrasts with Aldrin’s account, in which he claims that there was a “small exchange”, according to The Citizen.

The encounter ensued after Aldrin allegedly bumped on the rear of Augusto’s car deliberately. According to the woman, she was well ahead of Aldrin, who was on the right, and behind a taxi, which braked abruptly, causing her to switch to the same lane the anchor was cruising along. Although she had indicated, Augusto claimed that this move infuriated Sampear, who then started hooting and behaving erratically, eventually hitting her car and sticking to it until they both pulled over.
Despite the incident being taped and shared widely, Aldrin, in an interview with IOL, denied ever assaulting the woman in question. And while Augusto has reportedly laid charges against the TV anchor, Aldrin has stood firmly by the assertation that he never laid hands on her, citing that the video was edited. Moreover, the investigative journalist also commented that he would be entrusting his legal team with handling the issue.
Going into the case, Aldrin has a history of domestic abuse, with him admitting to abusing his ex lovers in 2020.
