Blxckie and Maglera Doe Boy Up For International Recognition With BET Hip-Hop Award Nominations
The 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards have officially dropped their list of nominees in the running for the gong, and two South African rappers have made it to the shortlist: SAMA-winning trap-soul musician Blxckie and baritone-styled hip-hop star Maglera Doe Boy.
The two beacons of Mzansi hip-hop are in the running for the Best International Flow award, with Maglera and Somnyama going up against the likes of UK stars Stefflon Don, Bashy, and Getts; Brazilian musicians Budah, and Racionais MC’s; French acts Leys Mc, and SDM; and Nigeria’s Odumodublvck.

Blxckie, already on his second nomination for the award, had a year to remember with a string of singles, an EP release titled see u soon, and getting his signature inked on a Def Jam deal. Apart from his exploits in the studio, he also made an appearance on On the Radar, gracing the American platform with a freestyle to make his name known to the global audience. The Durban-born hitmaker also had motion in the game, with him being embroiled in a beef with fellow hip-hop compatriot Usimamane.
Known for his stylistic flair as recognised by the GQ Awards, Free State-bred rapper Maglera featured on this year’s Hennessey African Cypher alongside the continent’s finest rappers and lyricists. Although the Diaspora star didn’t release any body of work throughout 2023, he achieved a great deal of visibility with his remarkable feature run. From his facile guest appearance on “018” from Cassper Nyovest’s Solomon album to his contribution on “Ntjaka” by Priddy Ugly, Doe Boy achieved something only the late AKA managed to do – staying relevant and living up to the hype off doing standalone songs and features.
The nomination marks Maglera’s maiden international recognition.

The award ceremony is due to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on the 15th of October 2024. Rapper Fat Joe will be hosting the 18th edition of the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
