Black Coffee Listed As Co-Producer And Co-Writer On 3 Of The Songs On Drake’s New Dance Album: Honestly, Never Mind

Honestly, Never Mind is a 14 track offering which is largely dance influenced. It’s experimental. Drake relives the Black Coffee produced One Dance days and brings an album with the same feel, almost 6-years later. Although plenty of people have called this album mediocre, Drake pulls off a 100% vocal album where he hardly raps, apart from Jimmy Crooks alongside 21Savage. Their chemistry is slept on, honestly.

His vocals melt over soothing electro beats, some with the familiar hi-hats and baselines that sound like Home, if you’re a fan of South African House music. Everything hovers around 125 BPM. There are moments though where he stretches the experiment on hard techno sounds like on StickyCurrents has a Chicago House influenced sound, reminiscent of Mr Fingers.

Our very own TRESOR also lended his backing vocals on on “Currents,” “Down Hill,” and “Tie That Binds.” The album was engineered by Shebib, Luca Pretolesi, and Noel Cadastre.

Noah “40” Shebib, Oliver El-Khatib, Noel Cadastre, and Black Coffee are credited as the project’s executive producers.

Black Coffee has been credited as producer and co-writer on a few songs on Honestly Nevermind. These include Overdrive where he is credited as a co-writer and co-producer. On Texts Go Green his son, Esona Tyolo is listed as a co-producer. Lastly,  on Currents Coffee is listed as a co-writer and co-producer.

This move comes after Black Coffee made history as the first African producer to win a Grammy. He won the award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his album Subconsciously. The album features Sun-El Musician, Una Rams, Tellaman, Pharrell Williams, Msaki and David Guetta.

Stream and purchase Honestly, Never Mind on all streaming platforms.
