BLACK COFFEE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES PRESTIGIOUS GALA DINNER TO CELEBRATE BLACK COFFEE’S BIRTHDAY AND ESTABLISH A WORLD CLASS MUSIC ACADEMY

The Black Coffee Foundation, established by internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Black Coffee, is set to host its annual Gala Dinner on 13 March 2025 at the exclusive LUXX Venue in Sandhurst, Johannesburg. This highly anticipated black-tie affair will not only mark Black Coffee’s birthday celebration but also serve as a fundraising event dedicated to launching a transformative institution for young artists – The Black Coffee Music Academy.

Guided by its commitment to providing aid, upliftment, and opportunities to South Africa’s underprivileged and differently abled communities, the Black Coffee Foundation focuses on implementing sustainable, long-term initiatives that promote education, independence, and social integration. Over the years, the foundation has made a meaningful impact through disaster relief for KZN floods (2022), back-to-school campaigns, food bank projects, and a skill-building program for women in eTiphini, Eastern Cape. Now, it embarks on its most ambitious project yet – establishing The Black Coffee Music Academy, a world-class institution designed to empower and uplift the next generation of musical talent.

Set against the backdrop of Black Coffee’s birthday celebration, the Black Coffee Foundation Gala Dinner will feature pre-dinner cocktails, an exquisite three-course dining experience, and a luxurious art auction showcasing exclusive pieces and memorabilia. Guests will also be treated to an unforgettable night of captivating entertainment, including a headline performance by globally renowned jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini on the grand piano. The evening will also feature an inspiring keynote address by Tshepo Mahloele, an esteemed investment professional, philanthropist, and Chairman of Arena Holdings and Harith General Partners. With nearly three decades of experience in financial services, Mahloele has led transformative investments across Africa in energy, transportation, and telecommunications. His dedication to socio-economic development and youth empowerment aligns seamlessly with the vision of the Black Coffee Foundation.

To kickstart this monumental journey, the foundation aims to raise R5 million through the Gala Dinner, contributing towards a R24 million goal for the year. These funds will support early-stage development for The Black Coffee Music Academy, including location scouting, infrastructure planning, and curriculum development. Contributions from sponsorships, auction proceeds, ticket sales, and direct donations will play a vital role in bringing this vision to life.

Speaking on the vision for The Black Coffee Music Academy, Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation, said – “This academy will be a hub of artistic excellence, giving aspiring musicians and artists a space to learn, grow, and thrive. Our goal of R24 million in 2025 might appear ambitious, but we believe that through partnerships and collective effort, we can turn this vision into reality. The Gala Dinner is the first step in that journey, and we invite individuals and brands to be part of something transformative. We are laying the foundation for something truly special.”

Through strategic sponsorships and meaningful contributions, donors will not only support an initiative of immense cultural value but also align themselves with a legacy- driven movement that fosters creativity, mentorship, and meaningful change. The Black Coffee Foundation Gala Dinner, in celebration of Black Coffee’s birthday, promises to be an unforgettable evening of fine dining, high-end networking, and an unwavering commitment to the arts. This is an opportunity for stakeholders to be part of something bigger – a project that will shape the future of music and arts education in South Africa and beyond.
