“Biri Marung” Rising Star Tebogo G. Mashego Not Arrested Amid Recent Hot Allegations

For those who have been following the live sessions and videos shared by “Biri Marung” hitmaker Tebogo G. Mashego, the news of his apparent arrest is a development that might not come as a surprise. On the 24th of September 2025, after days of the red-haired star making controversial allegations about industry heavyweights such as DJ Maphorisa, MaWhoo, and Young Stunna, among others, footage of the star made rounds on the socials, showing him being frog-marched by police escorting him into the back of a police van. However, it has come to light that Mashego was not arrested for his viral accusations, but he was taken away for abnormal, violent behaviour which posed a threat to the community.

The Laudium police, who reported to the scene to apprehend the budding musician, took Tebogo away after they were called to act in the interest of public safety.

“Tebogo G. Mashego has not been arrested. Information received indicates that he displayed an abnormal behaviour and allegedly acted violently, assaulting people without apparent cause. Laudium SAPS were summoned to the scene and, in the interest of public safety, had to forcefully remove him from the community as he was visibly resisting,” said the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster of South Africa.

Developments concerning Tebogo, his whereabouts, and his current condition have not surfaced since the video broke out.

Despite the clarification given by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, netizens on the socials have been running the incident as an arrest caused by the mercurial vocalist’s comments about some of the industry’s big names.

The whole situation blew up in Nigeria, where Tebogo alleged that he’d been sent there to perform, only for him to be left stranded and without payment. In addition, the rising star was left marooned in West Africa without a return ticket, an event that caused him to turn to social media to let the public know how dire his situation was.

It was during these videos that a visibly upset Mashego began calling out Scorpion Kings and the record label Sony Music, and alleged that they owed him over 20 million in unpaid royalties for the success of their successful smash hit “Biri Marung”.

South Africans swiftly rallied behind Mashego after hearing this, and DJ Karri, known for his publicised acts of philanthropy, booked him a plane ticket from Nigeria, bringing him back home. However, that wasn’t the end of it.

In some of his other videos, Tebogo made sweeping allegations against DJ Maphorisa, insinuating that he has slept with singer-songwriter Mawhoo and that he is involved in the death of certain artists, such as amapiano star Mpura Mpura. He also alleged that “Adiwele” star Young Stunna is in the closet, and that “Mlando” hitmaker TOSS got a Gucci belt as supposed payment, among other wild accusations concerning the industry.

Most of the artists Tebogo called out, save for Maphorisa, have responded either by posting on social media or by doing lives of their own given their two cents, vehemently denying Mashego’s claims.
