BandaBanda Launches Durban Leg of Isikhathi Tour with Visual Album Screening and Live Performance
Acclaimed South African musician, composer and producer BandaBanda launches the Durban leg of his Isikhathi tour on 26 March, bringing a unique blend of music, film and storytelling to the city through two special engagements.
The tour begins with an exclusive Isikhathi Visual Album Screening on 26 March at The Chairman, where audiences will experience the cinematic interpretation of the album; a powerful visual narrative that expands the music into a world of symbolism, movement and immersive storytelling.
On 27 March, BandaBanda will take the stage for a live performance at The Playhouse Company, bringing the music of Isikhathi to life through an evocative live set that blends African musical heritage with contemporary global sounds.

Isikhathi, meaning “time”, is a contemplative and genre-defying project that reflects BandaBanda’s evolving artistic vision. Through layered compositions and expressive instrumentation, the album explores themes of reflection, transformation and African identity while pushing the boundaries of how music can be experienced.
Born and raised in Durban, BandaBanda’s artistic journey began in a home where storytelling, community and music were central to everyday life. He later studied at the Natal Technikon School of Jazz and Popular Music, where a legendary pianist Bheki Mseleku, mentored him—an experience that helped shape his musical direction.
Over the course of his career, BandaBanda has collaborated with some of Africa’s most respected artists, including Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Busi Mhlongo, Madala Kunene, and Thandiswa Mazwai. Known for his expressive bass playing and intuitive musical direction, he has become a sought-after collaborator across live performance, recording and creative production.
Beyond performing, BandaBanda has also played a significant role behind the scenes as a producer, curator and creative director. Through BandaBanda Agency, he has curated concerts and cultural experiences featuring leading South African artists such as Simphiwe Dana, Samthing Soweto, Mandisi Dyantyis, and Langa Mavuso, contributing to the growth of the country’s contemporary live music scene.

Having spent decades navigating the creative industry, BandaBanda also brings a deep understanding of the realities artists face today; from sustaining creative careers to building platforms that support African musicians and cultural expression.
“Being an artist today requires resilience and a deep understanding of the industry,” says BandaBanda. “We need to create spaces where African music can evolve, be experienced fully, and continue to tell our stories.”
The Durban tour stop offers audiences an opportunity to engage with Isikhathi both visually and live — an artistic experience that reflects BandaBanda’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries while honouring African musical lineage.
