‘Alostro Is Dripping’: Popular Homeless Man Mohau Louis Gives Life and Rehab a Second Chance
Who would’ve thought, during peak COVID days, that the world would go back to being a place where one could go out without having to wear a face mask? Yet, several years since the country’s first outbreak, South Africa’s slowly rallying its strength to get back on its feet economically and the people are finding shards of hope in anything that will help with moving forward to the future. Homeless man Alostro (born Mohau Louis) greatly personifies this spirit of forging ahead.
The homeless man first erupted into popularity in 2020, when asked by SABC News what he and a contingent of homeless folk thought about the makeshift shelters during the pandemic.

Ever since the interview, Mohau’s moment has went on to be immortalised with the moniker ‘Alostro’, with the man getting as much coverage and love from the public as Bonga Sithole did, another homeless man who gained popularity in 2022.
Alostro has started off the year looking like a chipi with a fresh cut, and it seems like he’s prepared to clean up his act.
According to studies done, ‘Over 40% of Nyaope users drop out of rehabilitation, with less than 3% of successful recovery among those who complete their therapy.’ Yet, with the odds stacked against Alostro, he’s taking steps to fight his way up.
DJ Karri posted a picture with him, saying: ‘We are looking for a family member of Alostro to give us a permission for him to go to rehab and sign the documents upon his arrival. It’ll be a process to transform his life, but we will get there.’
Seeing new pictures of Alostro refurbished stirred up the hearts of netizens on X, with many commending Alostro giving himself a second chance to get back on his feet.
