AKA Was Followed From the Airport: Police Give Details Concerning the Shooting of Kiernan Forbes

One year since the tragic assassination of South African hip-hop star Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, new inroads have been made as the seventh suspect responsible for the murder has been arrested.

The latest arrest comes after Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of the South African Police Services (SAPS) briefed the media on the developments concerning the case.

In a statement made to the public, the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS announced that six culprits have not only been successfully apprehended and taken into custody but that they each played a different role in the orchestration of the demise of AKA and Tibz.

“These six [men] played different roles during the operation. We have the coordinator, who is basically the master[mind] of everything; [he] is in custody. We have two shooters that you all saw on social media. We have two spotters […] one was inside the restaurant observing and watching Mr. Forbes and his friends, as well as the organiser of firearms and vehicles.” Nhlanhla said.

He also shed light on the buildup of the shooting, detailing how the culprits kept track of the rapper’s trail from the time he landed at the airport.

“As I said, there’s six of them. The spotter initially followed Mr. Forbes from the airport on arrival, on the way to the hotel, as well as to the restaurant [Wish], where the incident happened,” Mkhwanazi added.

Mkhwanazi also deduced from his investigation that AKA was “the main target”, and that it was not the intention of the shooters to gun him down the way they had done just outside Wish but that the hit was supposed to be carried out while he was in his car.

This is a developing story.
