A Young One-Two With SAMA-Nominated Rapper and Singer FLVME
One of the most interesting facts about Vosloorus hip-hop star FLVME is his uncanny ability to see music in colour, a phenomenon known as chromesthesia. With the release of his latest LP BLVCK & WHiTE, the SAMA-nominated muso has not only deepened the engraving of his name and his standing in the game, coming a long way from being the wide-eyed rookie who turned heads with his Clouds EP, he has also enhanced what his life is, relative to his music. Much like the title of his newest project, the man and the musician are not opposites but different shades belonging to one and the same spectrum.
And he has never seen his professional and personal life as two different constituents to be isolated and taken as that.
“When I look at myself, I’ve never had to split anything into two because I’ve always been one with everything. I’m a single person doing all these things without separating myself into parts. It’s never been a case of living life in a way where one part of me does this and the other does that. What I will say, however, is that I do keep my family away from all the pressures and every other thing that comes with the lifestyle of being famous. My life is the same whether I’m out there or I’m at home, yes, sir,” he said of himself and how he approached the challenge of balancing fame and family,” he said.

Concerning matters of the heart, FLVME revealed that one of the greatest lessons he has learned is moving with caution when it comes to the arena of love.
“I’ve learnt a lot over the years. But one lesson that has stood out is to not rush into a relationship. When I look back, it hits me that I shouldn’t have rushed into those relationships because I feel like I had to start all over again and learn that lesson. This is not necessarily to say I was bad, but I could’ve educated myself more on the concept of what it is to be in a relationship, which is something I only got to do after the fact,” he said.
The “Let Me Down” star dropped some gems of wisdom regarding the connections one has, particularly giving game on how to navigate encounters with people and the outcomes of those situations.
“Every person in your life represents a certain part of you, especially on the emotional part of things. In a way, each person teaches you what to do with yourself without either one of you knowing about it. That’s how I feel. When you fall out with people, those people are also there to point out something about you. Maybe you need to love yourself better, maybe you need to fix this part of your life or that other part. Everybody in your life is a teacher one way or another,” he said.

FLVME spoke about what his downtime entailed, from holing up with a joystick and a console to expending energy by skating or spending time with loved ones.
“I mostly enjoy being myself and being in my own presence, dealing with my own thoughts. This includes thinking about what I’d like to achieve, what I’d like to learn and the things I would like to be in the future. If I’m not doing that, I’m probably plugging up the PlayStation and playing online games. I’m not really into any crazy stuff, I’d rather play Grand Theft Auto online. I also play some UFC and FIFA here and there. If I’m not doing that, I’m probably skating just to relieve my mind. I also like taking time to spend some with my family and friends. I’m very simple when it comes to these things,” he said.
He shared some of the things he wished to see manifest in his life in the future.
“For me, I just want to keep grinding, if we’re talking short term. But if we’re looking at things years from now, I would love to have grey hair and have little people calling me grandpa at some point in my life. I want to make sure my family is set for generations. I want to be the best version of myself in every aspect imaginable,” he said.
