A Higher Calling: More and More Celebrities Pursuing the Spiritual Meaning Behind Life

For most, life is without direction when abaphansi are not at the center. With prayers, spiritually-inclined individuals find a means to draw near not only to the guardians of their lives but also the givers of their purpose. In this pursuit, others find themselves searching for spiritual meanings behind life by recovering parts of their identity in those that came before them before the afterlife crowned them with eternal ancestorship.

Those who hold fast to the belief that they are born with a confirmed special gift – one that takes them on a journey that comes with isolation, the death of self, and a rebirth that promises a new way of relating to creation – keep growing in number, and among the tally are Mzansi celebs who are taking up the calling.

TV and radio personality Hulisani Ravele recently shared an Instagram post of herself in half ancestral regalia, perched on a rock as she overlooked a vista. Her caption alluded to her accepting her ancestral calling, with her followers congratulating her and the step she has taken on her life journey. Her transition has come after announcing a hiatus from being in the industry and her traditional marriage in late 2023.

Huli’s ancestral proclamation makes her another celeb who has come out regarding accepting her gift, with others (pictured below) being rapper Boity Thulo, Nyan’ Nyan’ presenter Luyanda Potwana, and media personality Masechaba Khumalo, among others.
