#EFFTurns10: The EFF Paint Marikana Red With Ten-Year Birthday Celebration
South Africa’s third largest political party the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are painting the town red as members have come out in their numbers and blood-coloured berets to celebrate the party’s ten-year anniversary.
Coming back to the same place where it all began, the polarising party chose the Marikana Koppie to mark the birthday celebration, the same venue which has served as a central and symbolic theme for the organisation’s decade-long struggle.
The party’s official X page wrote: “The EFF is eternally grateful to the Marikana mineworkers because it is their sacrifice that gave birth to this Economic Emancipation movement. We owe our existence to their fearlessness and attitude of no retreat, which showed our nation that indeed the struggle for liberation had been betrayed. #HappyBirthdayEFF”
The event has spawned the hashtag #EFFTurns10 on X, the recently-rebranded platform that was once known as Twitter, with many followers coming out and tweeting their support for the celebration.

The birthday celebration also heralds the EFF 10th Anniversary Rally due to be held on the 29th of July 2023 at the FNB Stadium, starting at 12:00 p.m.
