Is beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi looking to take on music?

Zozibini Tunzi’s participation on the recent episode of Masked Singer SA was more than just an appearance. For the beauty queen, participating on a show that showcased one of her many gifts was something she’s been wanting to do, peeling off another side to her. Singing, as she has shown fans in the past, is something that she is really good at and although she had never explored it on stage before, the Masked Singer has further piqued her interests.

We spoke to the beauty on her show experience and all things music.

What made you say yes to such a show?

It was a very easy yes for me because it’s a musical show and I absolutely love music and I thought expressing myself musically would be very interesting. People haven’t really experienced that side of myself, especially in a production where people could watch. It was really fun, with the masks involved and having that anonymity of not knowing who is behind it. You can literally be free in that space without the pressure or expectation.

Experience overall?

It was fantastic. The adrenaline of going in and out incognito and just performing music. I had never performed music on stage, so being able to do that was really fantastic.

Has this experience shown you your capabilities of doing music and are there plans to further explore this talent?

It’s definitely something I would look into doing. There are plans on the way, it should be interesting what happens but it’s something on the pipeline.

How important is it for you that this side of your talents shines through and you are seen as the multi-talented individual that you are?

Like I said, music is something that is really close to my heart. I’ve never really thought of doing it professionally because I had all these other things that I had to do. But I’ve always known that it’s a love of mine and I’ve always felt protective over it over the years. The show, therefore, was important to have that element out for people to know that I do have these other talents

Why do you love music so much?

I can say I was raised in a musical family because literally everyone in my family can sing. From my mother down to everyone. And I know how that phrase is normally used loosely but my family can really really sing. So I just grew up with that love for music. There is no professional singer, we are just all good at it and love it.

Do you have a musical icon or influence?

Oh my word, a lot to mention but the one person that stands out now is Lauren Hill. A favourite artist of all time, not forgetting Sade Adu who is also on top of my list.

Your thoughts on Amapiano?

I cannot dance to save my life LOL, and that can sometimes make it difficult to connect with amapiano but OMG, I do appreciate the beauty of the genre. There’s just something special about it.  But even if I would do music, I don’t think it’s a genre that I would delve into, simply because I don’t think it’s my kind of music to do.
