MOFAYA official sponsor for the Miss South Africa pageant 2023

South African black-owned energy drink MoFaya has been announced as Miss South Africa 2023’s official energy drink sponsor.

The prestigious beauty pageant finale will take place at Sun International’s flagship venue, the SunBet Arena at Time Square, Pretoria on Sunday, August 13 – with 12 contestants representing five provinces – five from Gauteng including two from the Vaal Triangle and one from Tshwane, Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape, and the North West.

The energy drink, co-founded by DJ Sbu- real name Sibusiso Leope and Siphiwe Likhuleni Shongwe back in 2013, has over the years made a name for itself – anchored on its product name pronounced “More Fire” – on values of passion and self motivation which squarely aligns with what Miss South Africa is all about.

MoFaya’s Shongwe said: “MoFaya has set its business ethos around encouraging the spirit of rolling up your sleeves and making it happen. We have always hoped that our story ignites passion and inspires those who have started to empower themselves, and in those who are thinking of starting a business. We celebrate the untold African and South African stories. This relationship is based on the commonality of shared values and makes the partnership with Miss South Africa a natural fit.”

Shongwe adds that the team has had a blast working with the Miss South Africa’s passionate and dynamic finalists, “women who are making it for themselves and wanting to give back to their communities.”

The 2023 Miss South Africa pageant has made various announcements, including announcing the very first Miss South Africa television show, Crown Chasers, which debuts this coming Sunday on SABC3. The series will be hosted by former Miss South Africa and Miss World title holder Zozibini Tunzi, with a judging panel which comprises Bonang Matheba and Leandie du Randt as well as a weekly celebrity guest judge.

These guest judges include Miss South Africa 2018 Dr Tamaryn Green Nxumalo, Miss South Africa 2001 Vanessa Carreira Coutroulis, Miss South Africa 2010 Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, fashion designers Gert Johann Coetzee and Khosi Nkosi as well as businesswomen Koo Govender.

Miss South Africa will also make its return to SABC 3 for its LIVE show in August after 23 years. The last show broadcasted was in 1999, when KwaZulu Natal’s very own Heather Hamilton was crowned the reigning queen.

SABC’s Head of Local Productions, Lala Tuku said: “We are thrilled to have Miss South Africa back on our platform. The Miss South Africa title carries with it a lot of hope, aspirations and most importantly, it enables young women from all backgrounds to showcase the power of what one can achieve with the right mindset. This is a showcase of intelligent, passionate and confident young women who are carving various paths towards success. The SABC remains the home of events of national importance and our logline for S3 is ‘Open Up’. To the Miss South Africa finalists, open up new worlds, transcend borders and be the best ambassadors you can be for South Africa.”

Miss South Africa Organisation CEO Stephanie Weil added: “We are so excited and thrilled to be back on SABC3, not only for the final pageant event, but also with a real game changer that is the Crown Chasers series. We said we’d shake things up, do things differently and bring a new level of interest to the Miss South Africa competition and I believe we have done just that!”
