Blxckie Explores Himself In Different Dimensions of the Multiverse With His Latest Music Video for “ronda”
Extracted from his latest studio album The4Mula, Sihle ‘Blxckie’ Sithole has released yet another music video from the body of work titled ‘ronda’. Following the drops of ‘investigate’, ‘together’, and ‘kwenzekile’, the Jasyn Howes directed visual offering is a futuristic story depicting Somnyama traversing different planes of existence throughout the multiverse as he raps about his superstar status and being one of the all-time greats in the rap game.
Tearing a leaf out of the playbook of multiverse screenplay, Howes explained:
“The concept for the video was inspired by a desire to shoot in a virtual production studio space with large format LED panels as a backdrop for a wide variety of settings, textures, and landscapes. It was also a chance to experiment with Unreal Engine technology. In the end the idea of “same song, different channel” emerged and thus why we moved through TV sets as we changed scenes in a seamless way.”
The visuals for ‘ronda’ begin with a hooded Blxckie boxed in a room with high walls of static. After rapping a portion of his song, the camera zooms out almost as if hovering away from the TV screen, only to reposition itself over another screen, this time with the rapper now in an incandescent room of amber light bulbs.
Such abrupt transitions punctuate the ‘ronda’ music video, taking Blxckie to a distant, barren planet akin to Mars with its reddish skies and treacherous terrains. Flashing lights that resemble the Bifrost transport the 4Luv songwriter to another kinetic landscape, the same style as seen in Marvel movies with Thor being the center of the transportation system. However, Blxckie rides on the light and, in other frames, stands, rapping his heart out.
The visuals for “ronda”, in their surrealistic interpretation of reality and their fantastic elements, mimic “investigate” and “together”. However, unlike his previous two music videos, “ronda” employs overt fantasy and sci-fi textures to the music video, making it a speculative video from start to finish.
